It’s a sad update that I have to give regarding LINR Peter the Koala we adopted before Christmas passed away over the Christmas New Year break.
When Peter, the third koala to enter the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital following the recent bushfires, arrived at the hospital his nose, ears and paws were badly burned. Volunteers worked tirelessly to help nurse the young adult koala back to health including hand feeding him, but sadly, he could not be saved.
It’s likely Peter had been chronically dehydrated because of the drought, prior to the fires, which may have had a major impact on his internal organs and he didn’t have the strength to recover from the trauma caused by the horrific burns.
The volunteers and staff at the Koala Hospital were absolutely heartbroken and devastated to lose Peter who seemed to be doing so well.
We have decided however to adopt another Koala from Port Macquarie Koala Hospital. We will update you further once the Koala Hospital confirms our adoption.
